Mr Graeme Groom CMG MA FRCS is one of the UK’s most respected trauma and limb reconstruction surgeons and a senior figure in the long-term humanitarian surgical programme supporting Gaza. As a consultant at King’s College Hospital in London and co-chair of the medical charity IDEALS, he has led and delivered some of the most sustained and impactful surgical missions into Gaza for more than 15 years.

Mr Groom is a pioneer of limb reconstruction at King’s College Hospital, where he helped establish one of the UK’s foremost services for treating complex injuries, bone loss, infected fractures, and reconstructive trauma. His career blends NHS excellence with extensive field experience in disaster and conflict settings. This combination has earned him international recognition and the CMG honour for services to emergency aid and orthopaedics.

Entering medicine later in life, and trained with the support of the British Army, he developed a calm, systematic and highly skilled approach to managing severe injuries. This depth of expertise is what makes his work in Gaza so vital.

More Than 40 Humanitarian Missions to Gaza

Since 2009, Mr Groom has personally travelled to Gaza between 40 and 50 times, providing care through wars, ceasefires and prolonged siege conditions. His deployments focus on treating adults and children with injuries such as:

• Severe fractures
• Limb-threatening infections
